Updated Medicine Carbon Footprint (MCF) Formulary is live
Medicine Carbon Footprint (MCF) Formulary 2026 is now live. MCF Formulary provides an accessible, user-friendly interface to explore the per-dose ‘cradle-to-gate’ carbon footprints of thousands of medicines, categorised into one of four MCF Ratings - LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, and VERY HIGH.
The 2026 version includes several key improvements:
Carbon footprint estimates include excipients and packaging, to align MCF with standards including GHG Protocol, ISO 14067:2018 and PAS 2090:2025
The methodology has been expanded to include medicines manufactured by chemical synthesis and/or fermentation.
The methods used to identify and exclude outliers have been improved
The underlying CO₂e values are now accessible.
